Have you ever been invited to a photoshoot and immediately thought, “Maybe another time…”?

Usually, it’s because of one of these thoughts:

  • I’ve gained weight. I’ll book one when I look better.
  • I’m not a model. I have no idea how to pose.
  • I don’t even know what I’d wear.

Honestly? I know exactly how that feels. I still get nervous before dance shoots myself.

Here’s how I deal with those fears.

1. “I don’t know what to wear.”

That’s not really fear—it’s just the easiest excuse.

Start with the overall mood or style you want. Missing pieces can always be rented, borrowed, or bought. Outfits are surprisingly easy to figure out once you have a vision.

2. “I can’t pose.”

Good news—you don’t have to.

Photography has become much more natural over the years. You don’t need to copy Pinterest poses. Smile if you feel like smiling. Sit quietly if that’s what feels right. Move, laugh, look out the window…

The only thing you shouldn’t do is freeze while wondering what to do next.

That’s my job.

3. “I’ll do it when I look better.”

Please don’t wait.

You’ll never look exactly the way you do today again.

A photoshoot isn’t about looking perfect—it’s about seeing yourself the way other people already do. And trust me, they’re not paying attention to all the tiny flaws you notice in yourself.

Don’t let fear make the decision for you.
